THE COSTA FOUNDATION

The Costa Foundation was set up in 2006 to give something back to the communities within the countries from which Costa source their coffee beans. Each year the Foundation will implement programmes to improve their social and economic welfare. In 2007, education will be a key focus of the Foundation. They plan to build, improve and maintain schools within three coffee-growing communities in Colombia, Ethiopia and Uganda. This will make a big difference in regions where children have a 3-hour walk to school, or have no access to clean water. The foundation will also be investing in a nutrition programme to develop land for crop growing. This programme will help educate the farmers and their families about better nutrition, and provide them with food. They are also researching future projects in Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, India, Kenya and Vietnam.
