THE COSTA FOUNDATION
Costa Foundation
About the Foundation
The Costa Foundation was set up in 2006 to give something back to coffee growing communities, after all; without coffee Costa simply wouldn’t have a business.
The Foundation’s objects are to provide access to a quality education for children in coffee growing communities, something that has been requested by the coffee farmers as a means to reducing poverty long-term.
The Foundation also ensures that the children it supports can have a healthy education and has invested in fresh water supplies, electricity, sanitation, child nutrition programmes and even a Social Worker’s salary. This is really making a big difference in regions where many of the children have no access to education, clean water, sanitation, transport or food for school meals.
Launched publically in May 2007, the Costa Foundation has built schools in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Uganda and Vietnam.
By 2012, the Costa Foundation will have:
- Built 22 schools
- Built and furnished 117 classrooms
- Given access to education to over 13,000 children
- Provided 237 teachers with jobs
