The "round-up" scheme is another easy way to engage employees in charitable giving.
Find out how your staff can make a difference by donating the 'loose change' from their wages.
Employees pledge to donate the "pennies" from their net pay to charity. This can be anything from 1p to 99p every week or month and has a particular appeal to lower paid staff as there is little discernible impact on take home pay. Many of the mechanics work in a similar way to tax effective payroll giving - with Charities Trust aiming to make the process as simple as possible.
This is not a tax effective scheme for the employee. However by donating the pennies to Charities Trust (a registered charity), we are able to claim a further 28% in Gift Aid from HM Revenue & Customers (Inland Revenue).
The donations would be held in Charities Trust account or forwarded to a limited amount of charities. Gift Aid would be claimed monthly and added to the fund(s).
Donations can also be paid at intervals or on an annual basis.
If you did not wish to give this to the major supported charities, you could select other charities by various methods e.g.
- An employee vote - an excellent way of involving staff as well as publicising the scheme.
- A charity selection on the pledge form.
- Donations could be split between the various Charities of the Year.
- One charity could be selected at the start of the promotion.
By using Charities Trust, you have the ultimate flexibility regarding the destination of the donations - from the local scout troop through to the largest national charity.
