Swimathon 06 Launch

GABBY LOGAN LAUNCHES SWIMATHON’s 20TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT FOR NCH

Sports personality and TV presenter Gabby Logan has launched Swimathon 2006, the Nation’s BIG Swim in aid of NCH, the children’s charity. Gabby was joined by Swimathon President Duncan Goodhew at the pool at Jumeirah Carlton Tower to show their support. Together they marked the event’s 20th anniversary and declared entries open for Swimathon’s celebrationary swims being held from 23-26 March 2006 across the UK.

Gabby said: "Swimming is an excellent way to boost your health, as well as a perfect opportunity to spend time with family and friends. It is important for families to do things together, and I encourage everyone to get involved in Swimathon 2006 as the event promotes swimming as part of a fun and healthy lifestyle and it encourages people to raise money for one of my favourite charities, NCH. Each year, NCH assists over 140,000 vulnerable children and their families across the UK, and sponsorship money raised will help the charity to continue this vital work, transforming the lives of young people in your community."

Duncan Goodhew said: “I’m thrilled to be celebrating Swimathon’s 20th anniversary this year, and very excited that 25,000 people will be joining in the celebrations, by swimming at 500 pools across the UK. Enter now and choose to swim any distance from a few laps to 5,000 metres. Whether entering individually or as a team, there’s a challenge to suit you, your family and your friends!”

Eighty per cent of all money raised by Swimathon 2006 will go directly to NCH, the children’s charity. NCH believes in the unique potential of every child. As well as being a registered adoption and fostering agency, they support some of the most vulnerable children in the UK including young carers and those affected by poverty and disability.
