Three natural disasters in five days have left the Asia-Pacific region in desperate need of support. Charities are fighting to save and rebuild lives.

26th September

Typhoon Ketsana hit South East Asia causing widespread damage across the Philippines and also parts of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. It is estimated that 2million people have been affected by the disaster, with 240 currently reported dead. Shelterbox is deploying teams across the devastated region to distribute emergency shelter and lifesaving equipment to the thousands who have become homeless. |
29th September

A tsunami hit the Samoan Islands and Tonga causing widespread devastation. At least 129 people have died, with many more believed to still be trapped under rubble. The British Red Cross emergency appeal is providing food and clothing for the people affected. They have also set up camps to provide safe shelter for the homeless. |
30th September
|
Indonesia was hit by two massive earthquakes and has been declared as a state of emergency. 180,000 buildings are estimated to have been destroyed, including hospitals and schools. The death toll is currently estimated at 1,100. Plan International is working to provide essential emergency shelter and hygiene kits to the thousands affected by this disaster.
