Lynne Franks, PR Guru, GMTV presenter Clare Nasir were just two of the guests backing a campaign launched by Lorraine O’Brien, Chief Executive of Charities Trust, a national payroll giving and corporate donation management agency – a charity in its own right, that will encourage greater Payroll Giving and giving in general in the UK.  The campaign ‘Giving is a Piece of Cake’ simply uses the example that if everyone donated the price of a piece of cake every week to their favourite charity in the easiest and most tax effective way of giving, which is Payroll Giving, making this pledge alone could dramatically increase the amount raised every week for thousands of charities globally. Already Payroll Giving raises £89million per year for 170,000 charities registered charities in the UK.

Lorraine O’Brien joined forces with Sarah Deaves, Chief Executive, Coutts & Co, and Debbie Burke, Founder and MD of ROC Recruitment, to share the message, ‘Giving is a Piece of Cake’.  Sarah is generously hosting an exquisite luncheon, which will be accompanied by a presentation on the remarkable work of Charities Trust.  Guests will include high profile individuals, HR Directors, Entrepreneurs and Corporate Social Responsibility Managers of some of the most successful Blue Chip Companies based in the UK.

The ‘Giving is a Piece of Cake’ campaign will run throughout the year, following the launch yesterday. Charities Trust came up with the theme, ‘Giving is a Piece of Cake’ which uses a birthday cake as an image. This year Charities Trust celebrates its’ 20th Birthday and so the birthday cake is iconic to the theme. The charity currently supports over 1,300 UK employers who use the payroll giving scheme, nearly 130,000 donors and over 10,000 charities.  The mission of the team at Charities Trust is to make donations work harder through the benefits of tax efficient giving.

Charities Trust are championing companies and individuals to engage in all forms of giving from Payroll Giving and fundraising to volunteering, with 20 years experience they know what a difference their help and support makes to thousands of UK charities who receive fundraisers and employees tax efficient donations.

“The launch of the ‘Giving is a Piece of Cake’ campaign at Coutts & Co. is just the start of a twelve month period of raising awareness about giving in a tax effective way. With 20 years experience of managing corporate charitable donations, employer Payroll Giving schemes, employee fundraising initiatives, the team at Charities Trust are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to encourage individuals and organisations to give to their favourite charities and good causes. In our 20th year our aim is to raise in excess of £20million for charity.”  Commented Chief Executive, Lorraine O’Brien.

ROC Recruitment is one example of a Company new to the Payroll Giving concept, following a presentation about Payroll Giving in October last year, the Company have seen a great opportunity to introduce not only their consultants to the concept that ‘Giving is a Piece of Cake’, but in partnership with Charities Trust they introduced an internal campaign to promote the scheme to their temporary workers and client’s alike. Debbie Burke feels passionately about finding the right employees for every role placed with her agency, now she wants to promote that every employee should find the right charity to support, the cost of one piece of cake every week could make such a difference to so many good causes.

Debbie Burke, MD & Founder of ROC Recruitment said, “I have supported many charities since I launched the business, however with a team of over 50 employees I now see the benefit that my team can use payroll giving to support a charity that appeals to them individually rather than asking them all to support a charity that doesn’t have any resonance for them personally.” She continues, “Personal experience is a huge catalyst for giving, both time and financially to any charity, knowing someone affected by an illness, or seeing a programme or charity appeal clearly motivates individuals far more to give as they feel more passionate about that charity.”

Debbie Burke’s comments come as no surprise to Sarah Deaves, Chief Executive at Coutts & Co.  She said “Only last year at another charity lunch hosted at the bank, the late Anita Roddick made an impromptu appearance which created serious discussion in the room about what motivates women to give to charity.  More and more I hear the same sentiment as that suggested by Anita, who was a renowned philanthropist, her words were quite200x200_fitbox-lorraine_o_brien_and_sarah_deaves.jpg simply ‘commitment and passion will do anything’ which seems to mirror the growing feeling about giving and the individuality of giving clearly comes from a passion for the charity.”

Sarah continues, “Coutts & Co works on behalf of 400 charities in a wide variety of activities, including scientific research, education and social projects. We are delighted to support Charities Trust and help share and deliver their message that ‘Giving is a Piece of Cake’ and encourage as many companies and their employees to seek the advice of Charities Trust which will undoubtedly increase the much needed unrestricted funds to charities.”
