Save the Baby continue their Miracle Ball event in order to raise funds and awareness of their efforts for those suffering
The Miracle Ball in Aid of The Save the Baby Unit Appeal was held on 14th October 2008, at the Dorchester Hotel London. The 360 guests included Natasha Kaplinsky, and stars from TV's favourite shows Eastenders, Hollyoaks, The Bill and Holby city to name a few. The Appeal funds are managed by Charities Trust and some of our team were there at the night to help with the donations made on the night from the many fundraising elements during the evening. Some of these extravegant prizes included ‘Diamond in the Rough' were guests were given glasses of champagne each containing a Gem in the rough - the lucky winner had a rough Diamond worth £2,000, there was an array of auction prizes which included a Golfing day with Gabby & Kenny Logan, Be a Pop star for the day, meet Status Quo, Live the day in the live of a Liverpool footballer to being a Zoo Keeper at London Zoo.
The final funds are still being counted and the Gift Aid calculated but the interim total stands at over £52,000
Professor Lesley Regan and guest Natasha Kaplinsky
Dr Lesley Regan who started the appeal to ensure the thousands of couples who come to the clinic at St Mary's Hospital Paddington every year, hoping to have a baby still had a clinic to come too.
12 months ago they knocked down the old Clinic after it was condemned by health & safety as not fit for purpose, Lesley, her team and supporters frantically raised the funds to enable the completion of this work trying to reach her target of £1million, they did it and the new Save the Baby Unit opened on 12th September 2008 by Lord Darzi and our Patron Natasha Kaplinsky. One in seven couples are affected by infertility, and one in every four pregnancies ends in miscarriage. Many have been trying for years without success and some will have known the utter heartbreak of stillbirth. All our sad, frightened and worried, but none leave Lesley's team without hope and 80% leave eventually with a baby to take home.
For the work to continue at the new Clinic it,s imperative they continue to raise money to employ the very best professionals and dedicated staff to undertake this essential research and maintain the vital equipment required, Lesley and her team believe their work gains from the fact they are supported by the efforts and generosity of their patients and staff and every team member knows their work is supported by the community they serve.
