Chris's Charity Challenge 2009

Rather than training and preparing for one event, I have decided to try and raise money in a different way during 2009!

So, my challenge for the year is this..........

TO COVER A DISTANCE OF 1000KM (621 MILES) OR OVER, USING HUMAN-POWERED TRANSPORT ONLY

The distance only takes into account organised events and not any of the training involved throughout the year, and will consist of activities like running, swimming and cycling (and sometimes all 3!).

Obviously, this will force me to maintain a high level of fitness throughout the year but my main aim for the year is to raise money for charities in a slightly different way. The three charities I have chosen are Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), Lexden Springs School, and UNICEF. These are all fantastic causes in their own right so please check out the links to see more about each and dig deep to help each towards their goals.

Unfortunately, due to injury (which I hope will be avoided for the rest of the year!), the start of this has been put back until 8th February when I will be doing the Great Bentley Half Marathon.

** 10TH MAY - BLUEBELL 5 RUN (8KM / 5M) ............ COMPLETED (34 MINUTES)

** 14TH JUNE - UK IRONMAN 70.3 TRIATHLON - 1.9KM SWIM/90KM BIKE/21KM RUN - (113.4KM / 70.3M) ............. COMPLETED (7 HOURS 35 MINUTES)

** 4TH JULY - HADRIAN'S WALL TREK - (135KM / 84M) ............. COMPLETED (6 DAYS)

** 9TH AUG - SUFFOLK COAST CYCLE - (96.6KM / 60M) ............. COMPLETED (3 HOURS 40 MINUTES)

** 2ND SEPT - LONDON TO PARIS CYCLE - (510.2KM / 317M) ............. COMPLETED (4 DAYS)

** 17TH SEPT - COLCHESTER 'RUN 4 FUN' - (4KM / 2.5M) ............. COMPLETED (15 MINUTES 44 SECONDS)

** 4TH OCT - FELIXSTOWE HALF MARATHON - (21KM / 13.1M) ............. COMPLETED (1 HOUR 53 MINUTES)

** 8TH NOV - STOWMARKET SCENIC 7 - (11.3KM / 7M) ............. COMPLETED (55 MINUTES 6 SECONDS)

** 5TH DEC - GRIM 8 - (13KM / 8M)

This schedule will have some events added to it over the year to push the distance as far beyond the target as possible. However, the core of these events will remain unchanged, including the toughest challenges of UK Half Ironman, Hadrian's Wall Trek and London to Paris Cycle over 4 days.

All the costs involved during the year such as event entry, travel and accommodation will be funded by myself so every penny you donate will go directly to these 3 charities. Every donation, whether big or small, will really be appreciated by me and the charities themselves, so once again, please, please give what you can.
