24 hour 3 Peak Challenger

Local Stevenage man and chronic lumbago sufferer, Nicolas Barrow, is about to embark on a massively testing challenge to climb 3 of the UK’s highest mountains in just 24 hours, and all in the name of charity.

Barrow from the Poplars, who has spent the last few years recovering from a crippling catalogue of sports injuries, will in late September start the enormous challenge at the base of Scotland’s Ben Nevis (4,409ft). After completing the climb at Ben Nevis it’s the long journey south to the Lake District, and climb in the late evening England’s Scafell Pike (3,210ft). Once completed it’s the final journey in the early hours to Wales and climb Mount Snowdon (3,560ft) and the completion of the challenge.

Barrow said “I have always wanted to get involved in charity work, but for the past several years I have been eating pain killers like smarties as I got through everything through gritted pain and determination not to let anyone down, when secretly the agony was in reality, crippling. I have changed my whole life around which has meant the past two years I have slowly recovered, thou I still suffer constant back ache.”

“I put together the challenge with help from Maximum Adventure for September 26th to 27th. I am trying to raise as much cash as I can for four different charities. The charities mean a lot to me and my family and my friends. More then 1 in 5 people have needed these charities, and without our help they wouldn’t survive.”

The chosen charities are Cancer Research UK, NSPCC, RSPCA and the RNLI Lifeboats. Barrow added “Please help! All donations are very welcome regardless of how large or small. Every penny counts”.
