A team from the Aberdeen Safer Community Trust is taking part in the Big Aberdeen Fun Run in October to raise funds for our charity. Here are just some of the reasons why we’re doing it:

In the UK, children are more likely to die from accidents than any kind of illness such as meningitis or leukemia.

Aberdeen has the highest rate of unintentional injury to children in the home in comparison to the whole of Scotland.

The North East of Scotland has the highest rate of road accidents in the UK with one person each week killed in road collisions.

Scotland has the highest number of fatal and non fatal fire casualties per million population in the UK as well as the highest rate of hoax calls.

Aberdeen Safer Community Trust is a unique organisation, the only one of its kind in the UK. We exist to effect change and save lives. Our services are designed to spread the safety message to the wider community, to tackle these astonishing statistics and to alleviate the unnecessary suffering caused to people’s lives. The true human and financial cost of these statistics is probably unquantifiable, but if you consider that each fatal road accident costs the UK taxpayer between £1million and £2million EACH, you begin to imagine the devastating effect that accidents such as these have on communities, business and the economy.
