Bish does the Grim 8 Mile off-road challenge

Hi, After doing my first ever fundraising event a few years ago by jumping out of a plane i thought something a little more 'Ground based' would be better.

Therefore i've decided to run the "GRIM 8 Mile off-road challenge in Aldershot on the 6th December 2008. Not just a 8 Mile run the course is described as (wording from website www.grimchallenge.co.uk/grim8)

"This land is used to test Army vehicles so expect it to be interesting! You will reach a long hill shortly after the start before descending again eventually reaching a water filled ravine. You will run on over puddle-strewn paths before having to crawl under camouflage netting. You'll eventually reach some man-made mounds before arriving at and running through some rather large puddles. Expect to get very wet! You'll run on to the fast vehicle driving circuit where it is rocky underfoot. This brings you to some more large areas of water and the finish area."

If all goes well I may be running the London Marathon in April...however we'll see how that goes.

If you would like to sponsor me thats great, i'm aiming to raise £500.00 so if 500 people sponsor £1.00 each then i've met my target easy. PLEASE forward to any friends/family who you think may be interested in sponsoring me.

My chosen charities are:

Cancer Research UK.

"More than one in three of us will develop cancer in their lives. Many of us have lost someone to it. We all want cures to be found.

Cancer Research UK is the leading independent funder of cancer research in Europe, but gets very little Government funding. We are almost entirely funded by the public - without the generosity and dedication of our supporters we would not be able to continue to make progress against cancer.

Every year of research improves our understanding of how to prevent cancer and treat it more effectively. In 2006/07 over 4,250 world-class cancer scientists, doctors and nurses were able to take forward their pioneering investigations. This is only possible because of the incredible support we receive from the public, but there is still much more to do."

Frimley Park Hospital - Children's Ward

"We aim to provide support for families to return home with confidence and knowledge which enables them to continue care in the child's natural environment. Where this is difficult, a warm, homely atmosphere, with play at the centre of the child's life, wherever possible, is the aim of all our staff.

Nursing is viewed as a caring role, which advocates for the best interest of the child/young person. Involving you and your child in their treatment and respecting both their and wherever possible your decisions and wishes.

Our nurses use their skills to provide care, and where appropriate, refer to other health professionals, thus aiming to provide the highest possible standards of healthcare for children and their families."

*************UPDATE**************

Having finished the run in 1:27.07 there are photos available on facebook. If you don't use it then please email me and i will happily forward photos of me looking awful.

Big thanks to everyone who sponsored - i'll get a total up soon but hopefully with all the offline sponsorship it will be close to the £500!

Thanks

Bish
