Charity Night
After tragically losing our first pregnancy with twin girls, Chloe and Grace, at 18 weeks in September 2009; Mark and I were very anxious when I got pregnant again just 1 year later. I was having weekly scans from 12 weeks and 18 weeks into my pregnancy my cervix started to open and I was admitted to hospital for a cervical stitch. The consultant advised me that it was a tricky procedure and we knew that it was only the stitch keeping our baby inside. I was in hospital then on bed rest from 7th December 2010 until our baby was born on 10th January 2011. I went into labour 23 weeks and 4 days into the pregnancy but I had been advised that I had to achieve a minimum of 24 weeks before the staff would even attempt to support our baby. Lily Mae Watson was born to a room full of nurses and doctors and specialist equipment that had appeared only moments beforehand, Lily weighed 1lb 4oz. From speaking to the doctors we knew that at first all that would be is that Lily would be given some oxygen to help her breathe and if she responded, pulse stabilised and lungs were working they'd do everything they could for her, however, if nothing happened straight away there would be no attempt to resuscitate her. In the minutes immediately following her birth Mark and I watched as the team tried to help her then the consultant called Mark to take a photo of his daughter, at this stage we were hopeful she would be OK. Lily was taken straight to the Neonatal soon after birth and we had to wait almost 6 hours before we could go to see her. When we finally cast our eyes on her for the first time she was perfect, small and fragile but still beautiful. Lily lost 3oz in her first few days and went down to 1lb 1oz (as shown in the picture) but despite her small weight she has always been a fighter and strong little girl. After a very interesting 17 weeks in the care of the Neonatal team Lily was finally able to come home on 9th May and I'm delighted to say she is perfect and has fought against the odds to be doing really well.
We'll never be able to repay the staff at the hospital nor thank them enough for taking care of our little angel. I would like to show my appreciation by raising funds for their "charity pot" which is used to purchase necessary equipment to support patients and their families.
I would be most grateful if you could support me to achieve my target of raising £1,000 by holding a charity night in the Whalehill Club on Saturday 10th September. There will be a quiz, raffle, tombola, race night and bingo taking place all in an attempt to help me achieve my target of £1,000. If I achieve my target of £1,000 or more my employer will contribute a further £1,000 too!!! Any donations would be gratefully received.
Thank you so much
