Event: Costa Coffee Corporate Sales Rutland Water Challenge 2009 for the Costa Foundation - Team Harvard
Event Date: 11th September 2009
Charitie(s) Supported: The Costa Foundation,

On Saturday 12th September 2009 Costa Coffee Corporate Sales will be participating in a unique and exiting challenge in aid of the Costa Foundation Charity.
The Challenge
Corporate Sales have a combined goal of £2500 to raise from this event.
3 teams will compete in a Rutland Water Challenge to achieve this combined target. Each team will compete in either a 17 mile walk or a 25 mile cycle around Rutland Water. As this is a family event, the smaller children of the groups will complete a 3.5 miles walk.
What is so unique about this challenge is that all participants will be completing the event in school uniform. Even our ‘Headmaster' Mr Rob Gower will be adorned in his old school attire (if it still fits)! Indisputably worth donating to see! Furthermore participants will be required to carry out a variety of school tests throughout the event.
Please show you support for Team Harvard and the Costa Foundation projects by donating to this event today.
Background
The Costa Foundation was set up in 2006 to give something back to coffee growing communities of the world. The objective of the foundation to implement programs to improve the social and economic welfare of the communities from which Costa sources its raw coffee beans.
The key strategy of the foundation is to create infrastructure within these communities, in turn they will continue to grow. The main focus areas for development are for education, clean water and better community facilities. This translates into building and extending schools, refurbish existing facilities, purchasing books, computers and teaching aids, school meals, increase the number of teaching staff, provide clean drinking water and sanitation within short walking distance from the school facilities and to develop nutritional and health programs.
What is so special about this charity is that the money you donate goes straight into building these communities. Better still Whitbread will match every Pound of your donation. Furthermore, Costa donates a percentage of its profits to this charity. Costa was also the first UK owned coffee chain to offer Fairtrade coffee to its customers. So think about these reasons before you're next caffeine pang tempts you to flirt with the opposition.
In 2009/10 the Costa Foundation is building, improving and maintaining schools within five coffee-growing communities in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Uganda. Donations for this event will contribute towards achieving these goals and future development projects. In addition to the five projects currently underway, seven projects have now been completed in Colombia, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Uganda.
By 2010, the Costa Foundation will have:
Ø Built 11 schools with a total of 55 classrooms Ø Given access to education for over 4,000 children Ø Provided 120 teachers with jobsContributions
