Event: Costa Three Peaks Team 2011
Event Date: 25th June 2011
Charitie(s) Supported: The Costa Foundation,
Nations Favourite Coffee Shop set to brew at 4000feet.
This summer, 22 Costa employees (each one representing one of the 22 schools built by the Costa Foundation) will climb the highest mountains in England Scotland and Wales to brew and serve Costa coffee at each mountain top.
"This is the 5th time we have put a team together for the challenge and this year we aim to raise more money than ever before to build classrooms in our new schools." Said Sandy Gourlay, organiser and Retail Development Manager based in Luton.
"Our team is made up of Costa people from all around the world and throughout our business. Barista, Store managers, senior Managers and Directors will all be working together to raise awareness of the great work our charity does" "We have Costa people coming from Europe and all over the UK. All passionately committed to the gruelling challenge of hill climbing and sleep deprivation, three times in rapid succession."
The Costa team are joined by likeminded associates from Whitbread, Buckingham Foods, Wayside- Volkswagen Audi and Kuehne & Nagel who are all taking part to help raise money and awareness of The Costa Foundation. The team from Buckingham foods will be climbing to raise money to build a classroom too and on the way they aim to design three new sandwich recipes to make at the top of each mountain, a perfect accompaniment to a cup of Costa Coffee.
Costa's Three Peaks Challenge starts on Saturday 25th June at Ben Nevis in Scotland. The team then travel to Scafell Pike in the English Lake District and onto Mount Snowdon in Wales completing their challenge on Sunday afternoon 26th June. Wayside Volkswagen and Audi are supporting the group with seven-seater vehicles and driver expertise which will in turn reduce the amount of cars used to transport the group.
"We are aware of the impact such a large group of fund-raisers can have and so with Wayside's help we are working hard to use fuel efficient vehicles and driving techniques. Our emissions are being offset by planting new shade giving trees in the schools we build and each year we make a contribution to the local Mountain rescue services to recognise the work they do for the hill walkers of the UK."
