On the 14th of August, 5 ambitious fundraisers will be cycling the length of Wales for charity.
The cyclists, Chris Shepperd, Rich McKeown, Darren Taylor, Carlos Brent and Rich Walklake will be challenging the toughest terrain that Wales has to offer starting at Betws-y-Coed continuing through the National Parks of Snowdonia and Brecon Breacon before finally arriving at their destination of Cardiff after completing a total of 154 miles.
The charities that will benefit from this event are ‘The Hampshire Autistic Society’, ‘The Harley Jae Trust’ and ‘Top Flight Exchange Program’.
The Hampshire Autistic Society offers support and information to people who have Autism, and their families. It offers a wide range of facilities and services including respite care, parent support and it aims to raise awareness of the disability. Cyclist Chris Shepperd has a personal connection to this charity, as his young daughter Olivia has a diagnosis of Autism. Charities such as this are so important to enable families to cope with having Autism in their lives.
Part of the funds raised will be donated to the Harley Jae Trust. Harley is a four year old boy who suffers from a rare condition called West Syndrome. His disabilities include severe Epilepsy, Global Development Delay and he is also registered blind. Sensory stimulation and specialist equipment are vital to aid Harley’s development and the trust was set up to purchase this much needed equipment. The funds raised from this event will be used to purchase lights for his sensory room which will help stimulate and hopefully improve Harley’s vision.
A donation will also be made to Top Flight Exchange Program. This program gives funding to allow children to play Badminton where otherwise their family’s finances would not permit this. This encourages young children to participate in sports and extracurricular activity.
