Jon and Nicki Woodhead would like to ask for your support in raising much needed funds for a charity that has provided invaluable support to our daughter Ellen. 

Springboard Opportunity Group, Chippenham, is an independent charity dedicated to helping  pre-school children with special needs to learn through play. It exists to provide a safe and stimulating environment for pre-school children from birth to 5 years old with special needs. Children benefit from the work of a range of people who attend Springboard on a regular basis, including medical officers, educational psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and a speech and language therapist. Additionally, Springboard pays for a music therapist to come in for 2 sessions per week. The input of all these professionals helps with the overall development of the children, and is incorporated into their individual programmes.

Ellen was born in June 2007, shortly after which she suffered a brain haemorrhage, is now severely affected by cerebal palsy, and has very limited vision.  Ellen has a wonderful personality, and loves to explore the world around her.  Over time, we will seek to raise further funds for all the numerous other organisations that are supporting Ellen in so many different ways.

On August 30-31st 2008, Jon will be cycling from South to North Cumbria (Ulverston to Carlisle), to raise sponsorship funds for Springboard.  Jon will be supported by his wife Nicki, who is providing assistance with logistics, fundraising and planning.  Jon will also be supported by his parents Peter and Sylvia who are helping with accommodation and transportation.  Although the route of 72 miles is perhaps a leisurely ride for the experienced, Jon is certainly not a seasoned cyclist, so the ups and downs of Lakeland will no-doubt prove quite a challenge!
