Phil and Bert's BIG Walk for Abi

On July 27th 2008 Philip Moralee and I are setting off on a 350+ mile, two week walk, to raise funds for The Jennifer Trust. Our journey begins at Chester-Le-Street Cricket ground in Durham and ends on Sunday August 10th at The Oval Cricket ground in London. During our walk we are also visiting Headingley Cricket ground in Leeds, Trent Bridge Cricket ground in Nottingham and Edgbaston Cricket ground in Birmingham.

My name is Graham Dryburgh and i am a postman at Lincoln Delivery office.I have been best friends with Phil since our school days and have been his best man at his wedding to my cousin Rachel, and God-father to the beautiful Abigail.

In November 2006 Philip and his wife Rachel lost their little baby girl Abigail to a rare muscle wasting condition named Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), at the tender age of five and a half months. Since Abi passed away they have so far raised upwards of £13,000 for The Jennifer Trust, and are continually looking at ways to support this wonderful charity. Our aim is not only to raise monies but also to heighten awareness of SMA to which most people are currently oblivious.

The Jennifer Trust was established by the parents of a little girl who lost her life in the same way as our Abi. They do a tremendous job of supporting families of children born with this genetic condition, and funds raised through charity events help to further understand the condition, and hopefully will one day lead to a cure being found (http:/www.jtsma.org.uk).

On completion of our mission we are holding a Charity Auction and Raffle night at Branston Hall Hotel on the outskirts of Lincoln, taking place on Thursday August 14th. We are extremely grateful for all the help Peter Redford has given us at Branston Hall, and also to all local businesses and individuals that have so far donated prizes for us. Without these a successful night would not be possible.

Any donations made through Charities Trust would also be greatly appreciated, though we do not have a set target that we are aiming to achieve clearly the more money we accumulate the happier we will be. Several local companies have donated funds directly to The Jennifer Trust, we would like to express our gratitude to Simons and Lindums for their contributions that have added a further £550 to our final total on completion of our event.

Please take time to browse through our web page. We have  included photographs of Abigail to show what a beautiful little girl we are sadly missing, and also pictures of ourselves mores the pity!!!

Our personal website is now up and running and can be found at www.philandbertsbigwalk4abi.co.uk.Please take time to read this site as it fully explains what we are doing and the reasons behind us doing this walk.It also features a full list of Auction and raffle prizes that we have accumulated over the past few months.

Any questions relating to our Charity Auction night please feel free to ask away, my personal email address is graham.dryburgh@btinternet.com if you have any questions. I will respond to all as soon as possible.

Finally I would like to add that in September 2007 Philip and Rachel had another baby girl, Ellie May, who is the light of their lives and the most beautiful little girl. Thankfully Ellie is a healthy baby, and at 13lbs 3ozs at birth was a big girl. Though we will never forget our little angel Abigail we all now have a treasure to dote over, and I would like to add that all of our family and particularly myself are extremely proud of this wonderful couple.

Let the walking begin!!
