Following the huge success of the 2008 inaugural Great North Swim that the event is returning to Lake Windermere and is set to be bigger and better for 2009!
The Great North Swim is a one mile open water swim in England’s largest Lake, Windermere, within the stunning backdrop of the Lake District National Park. Following its launch in September 2008 the event has already become world renowned, having been voted 5th in the Top 100 Open Water Swims in the World (posted on 10kswimmer.com, 2009).
The Swim in the lake will take place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September 2009, attracting over 5,000 swimmers. Further info Online at http://www.greatnorthswim.org. The Great North Swim will be a part of Great Swim, a new series of mass participation televised events. In 2008 Swim it saw top class Olympic medal talent from around the world take to the water Start Time: First ‘wave’ of 250 swimmers to enter the water at 9am on Saturday and Sunday. Finish Time: Final ‘wave’ to enter the water at 4.30pm on Saturday and 3.30pm on Sunday. Windermere, at 10.5 miles long, one mile wide and 220 feet deep (but no sharks), is the largest natural lake in England, and is fed by numerous rivers. Average temp 13-17 deg C (wetsuits compulsory if temp is less than 15 deg)

Marie Curie Cancer Care Mary Curie Cancer Care – Every £20 raised will enable a Marie Curie Nurse to give one hour of support to a terminally ill patient. Around 70% of the charities income comes from the generous support of thousands of individuals, organisations and businesses, with the balance of funds coming from the NHS.
