Perkins Great Eastern Run

In 2010 a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with eye cancer whilst 24 weeks pregnant with twins. She waited until the twins came naturally rather than being induced early and risking their health, but by doing this she put her own health at greater risk. The girls were born in June last year helalthy and well, and so treatment for Tracy commenced. At a recent check up it was confirmed that the tumour was reacting well to the treatment she received in July last year, so hopefully this will soon be a distant memory. This is a very rare type of cancer, one I had certainly never heard of before it affected her. The specialist centre of excellence in this country for this disease is in Liverpool which is where she received her treatment and consultancy. 'The Eye Tumour Centre' at Liverpool is a global leader but is heavily reliant on donations to fund further research. It was down to this research that they were able to advise her on postponing treatment until after the twins arrived and implementing the treatment itself. Tracy's strength and determination, selflessness and endurance during her ongoing struggle has inspired me, and alongside her, I wanted to do something for the Liverpool eye tumour research centre to help other people, too. The Great Eastern Half Marathon seemed to be the way to do it....and I thought my 10k Race For Life was hard!! Any donation whatsoever, be it pennies or pounds, will help keep my little legs moving towards the finish line and are greatly appreciated :-)
