Charitie(s) Supported: Winston's Wish,The North Wilts And Devizes Portage Service,
On Sunday 21st March I will be running for the first time the Reading Half Marathon (13.1 miles) for Charity. As many of you who know me well, I am not a natural born runner. Therefore I have spent the last 6 months training in the cold, rain and even snow to prepare for this. To make the months of training worthwhile I have chosen 2 charities that mean a great deal to me and would appreciate any donations to these fantastic causes.
Winston's Wish
In November a very dear friend of ours passed away suddenly, Graham Hollows. He was married to Towe who Nikki and I went to University in York with (those of you who were at our wedding will probably remember him) and we subsequently became even closer over the years as life progressed and we both had children. Many nights we spent at each other houses drinking and then falling asleep in the chair! Graham was an inspiration, and a wonderful man, and he and Towe have three children (Aila 5, Leiva, 3 and baby number 3 due in March) who will need lots of help and support to come to terms with life without daddy.
Winstsons Wish is a charity that specialises in helping bereaved children, they offer support and guidance and focus on trying to rebuild life for a positive future. Towe and Graham's children are wonderful and so amazing in how they are dealing with the situation they tragically find themselves in, but, they will need help at times and I hope that helping Winstons Wish will go some way to ensuring that help is there for them, and others suffering the same.
North Wilts Portage
I would also like to raise money for a charity that provides vital support for Ellen, the daughter of my friends Jon and Nikki Woodhead. Ellen suffers from cerebral palsy and the local portage team provide important weekly home visits to provide physical therapy treatment and provide a great service and much needed support to Ellen and her parents.
Portage is a home-visiting educational service for pre-school children with additional support needs and their families. The aim of Portage is to support the development of young children's play, communication and relationships and to encourage full participation in day to day life within the family and beyond the home. Portage services are committed to securing inclusion in the wider community for all children and families in their own right. Support offered through Portage is based on the principle that parents are the key figures in the care and development of their child and Portage aims to help parents to be confident in this role whatever their child's needs may be.
If you are a UK tax payer please remember to tick the gift aid box I will of course let you know how I get on and would like to thank you all for your support and encouragement.
James
