We are raising money for an excellent charity called Solent Youth Action (SYA).
SYA is a youth volunteering charity that works with young people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to help them contribute to their local community.
Aims of charity:
1). To foster and develop increased learning and development opportunities for young people by empowering them to contribute, steer initiatives and lead their own youth-led projects.
2). To encourage the involvement of young people from all sections of the community (especially those who are at risk of social exclusion) and ensure that all have equal opportunity to participate regardless of gender, religious and ethnic background, disability or sexual preference.
3). To support young people to develop volunteering initiatives that address community needs and, in benefiting others, provide them with a sense of citizenship and community responsibility.
This is a very worthwhile cause. The money kindly donated will go towards our departments (Environmental & Community Affairs) self-funded volunteering project, which is part of our local area response to Acting Responsibly.
Our volunteering project is to prepare an allotment so the young can grow fruit and veg - for all the community, for example to give away to the elderly.
