As you may or may not know, I am climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in September for charity.
The charity that I am fundraising for is St Andrew's school in inverurie where my mother works as Depute Head Teacher. St Andrew's school has over 100 pupils, aged from 3 to 18, with a wide and diverse range of special education and physical needs.
Mt Kilimanjaro is in north-eastern Tanzania and is the tallest free standing mountain in the world with a height of 5,895m (19,341 ft). This will take me 8 days to climb as I will be following the Lemosho Trail. The route will mean trekking through various climates with temperature ranges from 30 degrees Celsius on the plains surrounding Kilimanjaro, to 5-10 degrees Celsius at 3000m and summit temperatures well below freezing. Not only will that make the climb hard having to put up with the low temperatures, but I will also have to put up with altitude sickness, the occasional high winds, sleeping in a tent for 8 days with no running water for a wash and make shift toilets. Sounds fun!!! But despite all these off putting things it will be a very rewarding challenge and a challenge that I am really looking forward to do.
As I am not an experienced hill climber, I have to get a lot of training in as well as buy a lot of gear for the climb. The hardest part of the challenge will be raising the £3500 to qualify for the Climb, so any donations will be GREATLY appreciated.......
I will be heading to Africa on the 1st September to complete the climb but my sponsorship money has to be sent in by the 11th of June, so please empty your pockets and sponsor me.........
