In November I will be 30 but instead of having a party I have decided to celebrate it by trying to push myself and complete a challenge. I am going to cycle 400km/250miles from Vietnam to Cambodia in 6 days. This will be a big challenge for me as all through my childhood I was told not to take part in strenuous exercise after having surgery to repair a hole in my heart when I was 11 months old. After my operation my family held a fundraiser to raise money for the hospital as a way of saying “thank you” and raised over £5,000. I’ve decided it’s now my turn to try and do something for the hospitals that saved my life. I have paid for the challenge myself so all sponsorship will go directly to the charities. I really appreciate your sponsorship and will use it as motivation to keep cycling even when my body wants to stop! All the money I raise will be split equally between Southport & Formby District General Hospital and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Southport Hospital is currently trying to raise money to buy a state-of-the-art 3D heart scanner which will be used to detect heart defects such as mine. Alder Hey has a charity called the Imagine Appeal with all donations being used for researching childhood illnesses and to buy new equipment. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also an efficient way to sponsor me and if you are a UK taxpayer and you opt for Gift Aid an extra 28% in tax will be added to your donation at no extra cost to you.
