Ironman Germany is one of the countries biggest annual sporting events, attracting over 2000 athletes and nearly 500,000 spectators each year.
Taking place in and around Frankfurt, the athletes will complete a 2.4mile swim, 112mile cycle followed by a full marathon..all against the clock!
This year there will be 7 hardy souls from Tri Preston joining athletes from all over the world. We are all competing both for personal pride and acheivement, whether that be just to finish, or break the 12 hour barrier. However, and more importantly, we are also competing to raise money for two charities close to our hearts.
New Start was founded to fund the first heart transplants in the North West and to assist the funding of the first dedicated centre for heart and lung transplantation. Over the years the charity has raised over £6million paying for the first 50 transplants, and a new transplant ward amongst many other developments at Wythenshaw Hospital.
The Parkinson's Disease Society was established in 1969 and have invested over £35milion since it's inception into research that is focused on transforming lives. Their work is funded almost entirely by charitable donations, and they hold a strong belief that no one affected by Parkinson's should have to face the condition on their own.
