Running for Charities Trust ....please donate what you can

On November 7th 2010 I am running the New York Marathon to raise funds for Charities Trust to help support some very worthy charities. They include a mix of national and local organisations including, NSPCC ChildLine and Centre 56, a North West based refuge for those fleeing domestic violence and abuse.

I do hope that you will lend your support by donating what you can no matter how large or small....every penny will really make a real difference.

To give an idea of how your sponsorship money can really help:

- £4 could ensure that when a child picks up the phone, a ChildLine counsellor is available to listen. Currently, of the 2.3 million calls received from children each year, one third aren't answered due to lack of resources

- £38 helps protect a child known to be at serious risk through creating a report for the child protection authorities.  98% of these reports result in authorities taking further action to protect a child

- £1,000 would provide necessities for a family arriving at a protective refuge, whilst allowing them to escape domestic abuse

Donations will be very much appreciated by me and those who call upon these charities for help.

The New York marathon is classed as one of the world Marathon Majors and is as demanding as it is hilly, yes hilly! It takes in the five boroughs of New York state and finishes in the iconic Central Park on Manhatten Island.

This marathon is not for the faint hearted.  I ran it in 2004 and it has taken me six years to face it again!  As part of a combined fundraising effort with Mark Newton Jones and Shop Direct Group we want to raise a lot of money to help a lot of kids have a happy and safe childhood.
