Ride2Raise is about 6 amateur cyclists riding a mazy 600-mile route from the famous Box Hill in Surrey to Edinburgh's highest point, Arthur's Seat, in just 6 days from 4-9 Sept 2010.
We're doing it to raise money for causes close to our hearts, but also to promote cycling as a healthy and eco-friendly way to fundraise - encouraging new riders to sign up for one or more of the hundreds of cycling events charities put on each year.
Meet the team....
Richard King - After nine (9) operations (including a knee arthroscopy on 6 May this year), Richard's surgeon has recommended a complete cessation of all strenuous sporting activity (oops!). However, with cycling being in the King blood, he's determined to be fit in time to raise plenty for his Mum's own charity, Joy Community School, as well as Barnardos.
Adrian Mann - Ade is a London-Paris veteran, who adds some much needed experience. Blessed with annoyingly youthful looks and fitness for a man his age, he will have to ditch his usual all-black look in favour of the Ride2Raise team kit. Ade's chosen charities are Livestrong and White Lodge Centre.
George Young - Our youngest rider, George makes up for what he lacks in kit (begged shoes, borrowed bike, stolen shorts) with oodles of enthusiasm. Rumour has it he's even lost a few pounds. George's chosen charities are Aftaid and The Amber Foundation.
Tim Watling - Tim's managing our website and, as the Editor of Raise, he'll be heavily involved in the success of the project. Currently building his own range of frames - www.onebikesworld.co.uk - his charities are The Stroke Association and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mike Pemberton - Broke his ankle in 2009 so sees this ride as a test of how far he's come. Used to play for Chester City, so knows how it feels to be the underdog. Mike's supporting NACC and Shared Interest.
Oliwer Kmiecik - Ollie rode from Lands End to John O'Groats unaided and having pretty much recovered from that (back in 2008) is ready for his next challenge! Fond of a spot of lycra at the best of times he is raising money for Tenovus, Wales' leading cancer charity, as his mother has recently recovered from cancer.
Julian Baker - With his dubious driving record, Jules may seem like a strange choice to drive our support vehicle. However, in his favour he was available -and to be serious, he's exactly the sort of enthusiastic, reliable chap the team will need.
The other charities we're supporting are St.Dunstans and Circulation Foundation.
We'll also be delivering Charity Hero awards en-route to people and/or groups who have made outstanding contributions to charity - hence the extra distance on what would normally be a 450-500 mile route.
The Charities Trust will collect all donations through this page in a special account and the money will then be distributed among our chosen charities after we've completed the challenge.
We urgently need your support and would be extremely grateful for even the smallest donation.
