My Donations to date: £1652

Event: Sponsored Sail - Bosworth Water Trust
Event Date: 16th May 2010
Charitie(s) Supported: Leicestershire & Rutland Youth Sailing Association,
The LRYSA is a charity based in and around Leicestershire and Rutland and has been in existence for at least 30 years that I'm aware of and was set up to teach both abled and disabled children & adults to sail, in essence try to promote sailing as a sport that is not just for those with a surplus income.
I have volunteered with the LRYSA for some time now and was recently awarded the Adult Volunteer of the year by the Hinckley and Bosworth sporting alliance. One of my roles within the organisation is to co-manage our race team and take them to the Youth Sailing Nations held every year to represent Leicester and Rutland.
The LRYSA is solely run by volunteers and relies purely on donations and grants to help cover costs and maintain the boats. As we don't have our own home we create alliances with other clubs and organisations which enable us to sail at teach at various venues, some of which include Bosworth Water Park in Market Bosworth, the Sea Cadetts in Hinckley, Watermead Country Park & Roundhills sailing club in Syston.
One of our claims to fame is Mike Wood who started his sailing career with the LRYSA became the Topper World Champion in 2007 and has just been accepted by the RYA to start training and become part of our future Olympic sailing team, definitely a name to watch out for.
This year to help raise money we are running a 12 hour nonstop sail at Bosworth Water Trust. The event is taking place on the 16th May, will start at 8:00am and finish at 8:00pm. Adults will be sailing the entire 12 hours nonstop with the younger sailors ( some as young as 7 & 8 ) doing as much as they feel possible. The idea is to raise money to help toward the upkeep of some of our aging boats and also to raise funds to put another team together of under 18's to take to this year's National Schools Sailing Association annual Regatta to represent Leicestershire.
Hopefully by now I have convinced to donate some of your hard earned cash to help the LRYSA continue to teach kids, young adults and adults to sail and maintain our aging fleet of boats.
All donations large or small are very much appreciated, it all helps.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to seeing your name on the sponsor forms.
Regards
Rod
